I have been getting the feeling that businesses are thinking more seriously about blogging and social media. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that 2009 could well be the year that there is a sizable move by brands and business into this space.

My word of caution is that when taking this step it is important that strategic thought is put into it first. While it is the right place to be - it is better to not do it at all than to do it badly.

So how do you start thinking about it? Talk to people who get it. Or pay to have people come in and talk to you about it.  I have been doing some work with KMP recently and these guys have a good handle of how social media should be used and how it interacts with business and marketing. I was reminded that they are doing another of their blogging workhops in Manchester this week. I’m not involved or benefitting from mentioning this workshop - I am highlighting it because it is an easy way to start learning and planning how you could use it in your world.
