Are you down with Twitter yet?
I know I haven’t said how much I’m loving Twitter yet - but enough other people are so I’m going to consider that done.
I have introduced a few people from within MediaWorks (my new job) to Twitter and already they are off and flying. Early kudos to @DomHarvey for jumping in with both feet
Apart from following interesting people (Stephen Fry, Lance Armstrong, Scott Mills, MC Hammer* etc.) who are multiplying by the hour here are a couple of things I think make it rock;
When news breaks do a search (hidden down the bottom of the page) and it can reveal a lot more that your standard news story. Although a bit macabre I did do it for the Buffalo plane crash last week. There was an eye witness who was also a Twitterer.
Today I feel like I have lived through the Brits by scrolling through the thousands of Brits tweets. In fact I think it may have been more interesting than watching the show.
More people are developing interesting apps around it all the time.
And then there is Paul or @twitchhiker - he sets of from Newcastle in 10 days and is ultimately trying to get to NZ (where I am sat) solely through the travel & accom offers that come through Twitter. Cool idea. I hope he gets here for a Monteiths.
On the flipside. A lot of people have set up auto replies (called re tweets or RT’s) which come flying in when you follow them. I assume they think this is friendly - it’s not, it’s impersonal nonsense & it feels like spam. Ignore the impulse to set them up it will take you further
As for me - I’m @andemac
*Actually don’t bother with MC Hammer there is a lot of god in there & no hammertime.
