Who is in Control of the Crazy Woman?
As a youngster I was told that nobody could make me do anything - normally after saying “you make me so mad!”. It was my choice as to how I felt in the face of provocation. This is completely logical but when your brother ruins your favourite shirt it is easy to go nuts at him but equally you could shrug and say that everything is fine.
In more recent times a couple of people reminded of this in a more grown up way. The basic premise being react, respond, initiate.
React - generally badly to a situation. This is a brain off, gut reaction scenario.
Respond - take in the stimulus and then respond in a considered way to try and get the best outcome possible. For me, this means with honesty & dignity as well.
Initiate - the good stuff. This is where you start something and aren’t having to react or respond to a situation. This is also the hardest part. It’s easy to get an email and fire back a response. How good does it feel to start a new ball rolling with something that you have conceived & others must then react or respond to.
The reason this came to me is that Dom sent a tweet of this woman losing it in Hong Kong International Airport. It is the best tantrum not from a 2 year old you are likely to ever see. It is also the best reaction example.
I am trying to do a lot more responding and initiating.
