New Music Friday #1: Jersey Budd
This is the start of a new series, as we all need new music for a weekend…

The Scoop: Although he is from the East Midlands there is a lot of yankee doodle dandy in his songs. Until Kasabian (who he has just supported in three hometown gigs last week) of recent times you would be hard pressed to remember anyone other than Showaddywaddy from Leicester.
It was a friend who pointed me in the direction of JB and you can always guarantee that a recommendation from him is going to have a touch of the Weller about it - and that is true here. I would also add Richard Ashcroft & Counting Crows to the list.
This project has been financed by the interesting new ‘fan funded’ model in this case the UK’s Bandstocks where for as little as £10 (NZ$25) you can be an investor in a number of projects - I like the look of FrYars which is in the investment phase currently.
So if you’re looking for some good songs with someone who chooses to be a solo artist so that other people don’t mess it up then this is a good place to be. I can imagine he does a good live turn - maybe one day we’ll find out.
