New Music Friday #5: Team Waterpolo
Because we all need new music for a weekend…
From: Preston, UK
Who: Team Waterpolo: Freddie Davis (vocals), Lex Dunn (drums), Nathan Standlee (guitar, keys), Ruggero Lorenzini (DJ, samples)
The Scoop: Team Waterpolo are school mates from the less than glamorous Lancashire town of Preston - trust me I know. They are typical of the quirky northern pop that Greater Manchester has churned out over the years. It is nearly 2 years since I knew them as a band with a demo CD and a release imminent on an indie label (they are now with the major label Sony) and they have still got the infectious groove & lyrics that were the initial spark which had the A&R men in London all excited. If you’re looking for something that mashes up an indie pop sound, hooks galore with the honesty of northern England then this is the place for you.
Team Waterpolo aren’t going to change the world but they are going to have a good time not doing it & you will are likely to enjoy the ride with your arm pumping in the air.
Next time your mates get together Team Waterpolo are just the thing to get the party started.
