New Music Friday #8: The Temper Trap
From: Melbourne, Aus
Who: The Temper Trap: Dougy Mandagi (vox & guitar), Jonathon Aherne (bass), Lorenzo Sillitto (lead axe & keyboards), Toby Dundas (skins)
The Scoop: This is a band who have had one massive year & look set for another. After coming to attention of the music industry at the trade event Big Sound in Brisbane last year things have gone ballistic. Label deal signed, album recorded with debut album specialist producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian), a move to London, playing European festivals and release of album ‘Conditions’ in July this year.
The music is good uplifting rock & with more of a European feel than what you would expect of most Aussie bands. There are a lot of soaring vocals, bursting riffs and big keyboards to be enjoyed. One song to look out for on the album is Sweet Disposition with its haunting vocal and gangbusting guitar melody. This is music to make you more productive.
It is an album which is equally ambitious as bold. There are surpises by the track & it never settles into predictability. They also sound like they are having a good time - check out the audio from a interview on The Rock.
The excellent news is that they have been confirmed for Big Day out in January. If you’re there, make sure sure you make this a must see.
